Battlefield 2 patching
I have just bought Battlefield 2 (finally), but am having trouble to get the application patched to the latest version due to the error "You have too little space on your harddrive to patch BF2(TM), You need at least 3000MB".
Which is rather annoying as I have 40GB free. Well, I have 40GB free on the partition Battlefield 2 is installed on.
The drive my OS is on, doesn't have much space left (because that's a waste). Which is where the problem is. Don't you worry, I even have my temporary directory on a large empty partition. So what's the problem?
The patch sucks. So, if anybody else is having this grief, this is what you need to do.
Clear out your temporary directory (Start, Run..., %TEMP%).
Run the patch, when the error comes up, just leave it and open your temporary directory again.
In there you will have some GUID type directories (e.g. strings of numbers like you find in the registry classes). And a directory called ByeX.tmp (X can be any character). Navigate into this directory down to the "bf2" directory, and take note of the path.
Load up a command prompt and navigate to the GUID folder and down into the directory containing the PATCH.exe file, this will set your working directory.
Then run this command:
patch [game install dir] [path to byeX.tmp bf2 directory]
This will then start the lengthy patching process. Once this has finished you can dismiss the error on the patcher.
It's hell, it's poor coding by whoever produced the patch.
